Thatched huts of the En Ooru tribal heritage village on a green hillside, Wayanad

Tribal Village

En Ooru is a tribal heritage village at Pookode in Wayanad district, showcasing the vibrant culture and traditions of Kerala's tribal communities.

This unique destination features a cluster of traditional tribal huts roofed with hay, set against the backdrop of towering hills. Spread over 25 acres on a hillock, En Ooru gives visitors a golden opportunity to learn about the heritage and lifestyle of the tribal people.

Managed by tribal communities with the aim of enhancing their livelihood, the village hosts cafeterias that serve ethnic dishes and a tribal market. You'll find stalls selling souvenirs, spices, and handicrafts made by tribal artisans. The campus also includes a warehouse for collecting handicrafts, a felicitation centre, and an open-air theatre with seating for 300 people.

Thanks to En Ooru, tribal people now have a permanent marketplace to sell their produce, and tribal artists have a platform to showcase their talent. A joint venture of the Departments of Tourism and Scheduled Tribe Development, this centre also preserves traditional knowledge on food processing and offers training in organic farming.
